Unemployment and Pensions Protection in Europe: the Changing Role of Social Partners

[22-11-2016]
Invitation to the final conference Unemployment and Pensions Protection in Europe: the Changing Role of Social Partners Brussels, 22 November 2016 – 9 am- 5.30 pm

For the past two years the European Social Observatory (OSE) has been leading an EU-funded research project on 'Unemployment and Pensions Protection in Europe: The Changing Role of Social Partners' PROWELFARE. The project aims at analysing the emergence of ‘occupational welfare’ in nine EU Member States.

During the Final Conference – to which you are cordially invited – the research teams will present the core findings and policy implications of the project, which aims to ascertain whether and how supplementary welfare benefits in the areas of unemployment and pensions are made available through collective bargaining, or unilaterally by employers. Lead academics (EU and national), stakeholders and policymakers will provide feedback and actively participate in the discussions.

The morning session of the event will flesh out the key findings of the research project. During the three ensuing parallel sessions, you will have the chance to engage in a discussion about the country case studies which assess the recent evolution of occupational welfare schemes in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden and the UK. During the afternoon session panellists will discuss the complex governance and wider future of occupational welfare in Europe with the audience. Confirmed keynote speakers include Jochen Clasen, Bernhard Ebbinghaus, Bent Greve, Maarten Keune, Martin Seeleib-Kaiser and Michel Servoz.
